PELUM EXPERIENCE

Cadecom Mangochi

Reaching 9000 targeted project participants, CADECOM is implementing its projects to promote sustainable livelihoods through agroecology farming practices, food and nutrition security, disaster risk management, conservation of environment and natural resources management, water, hygiene and sanitation, humanitarian response and advocacy work.

Churches Action in Relief and Development

CARD is currently reaching 49150 participants with different interventions. CARD provides emergency relief assistance and rehabilitation support to victims of natural and manmade disasters. CARD implements livelihood and development programs in central and southern regions (Nsanje, Mulanje, Balaka, Dowa and Mchinji on food security, economic empowerment, environmental management, climate change, health, water & sanitation and response to disasters (drought/dry spells and flooding). It has also implemented the just phased out climate challenge programme Malawi in a consortium with Trocaire and SCIAF. Their main key thematic areas are Humanitarian response, value chain and resilience building and climate change proofing and environmental management.

Kusamala Institute of Ecology

Kusamala Institute of Agriculture and Ecology is a non-governmental organization that promotes agroecology systems in Malawi through demonstration, consultation, education, outreach and advocacy. Their work is scaled up to the wider community through NGOs working in different districts of Malawi. In coordination, Kusamala is also collaborating with other networks such as Permaculture Network Malawi, Permaculture Malawi among others. It is also a member of the Agroecology Hub coordinated by the Lilongwe University of Agriculture and Natural Resources.

Land Governance Alliance

Land Governance Alliance (LAGA) exists to promote people-centred land governance, pro-poor land administration and responsible land based investment models that respect community land rights, promote environmental sustainability and protect tenure rights of the vulnerable and marginalized persons including women, men and communities who live on and from the land. Some of the interventions that have been implemented include women land rights, climate and environmental justice, natural resources management and environmental sustainability, land grabbing, community land and property rights, community mobilization and advocacy.

Coordination union for rehabilitation and environment. It was established in 1994 and registered in 1999. It coordinates the implementation of environment Coordination of members, implement of enviro and natural, advocacy for effective implementation of policy formula and review of policy, capacity building for effective implement of programs networking with national and international organization, sharing experiences and best practices, finding opportunities fo funding and linking up like minded organizations for . promotes sustainable agricultural practices.

Soils, Food and Healthy Communities

SFHC started as project in Malawi in 2000 with only 30 farmers in Ekwendeni but scrolled out to the central region of the country. Farmers work together in exchange of knowledge and best practices on sustainable agriculture to ensure food and nutrition security and improve soil fertility. The organization has used principles of agroecology in implementation of the projects and in research and trainings. The focus is on equal participation and distribution of resources, farmer leadership and working to support sustainable, healthy, resilient communities.

Concerned Youth Organization 

The organization is promoting sustainable agricultural practices where farmers are trained using farmer to farmer approaches, marketing linkages and value addition, livestock management using the pass-on approach. Offering extension services and education awareness in climate change and awareness to enhance climate change resilience. Developed a guide called environment and climate change youth guide to action which is also applied to community members who can understand issues and participate in climate change mitigation, whose tools are also applied on food systems.
Grow Biointensive Agriculture Centre Malawi

Pioneers of bio intensive farming technologies in Malawi. They train farmers on maximum use of land by intensifying growing of different species of crops and plants to enable ecosystem support and protection of the indigenous species
COWFA

A coalition of women farmers in Malawi, was established in the year 2006 and has got a membership of over 300, 000 women farmers from across Malawi. It promotes use of agroecology and sustainable farming methods to ensure resilience among farmers. It has also helped spread more sustainable and resilient agricultural practices such as seed banking and manure production as opposed to using pesticides and fertilisers that deplete soil of its nutrients and can lead to increased food insecurity. The organization is also involved in advocacy for farmer rights.
