Exciting Insights from Nkhatabay: Permaculture Exchange Visit Promotes Learning and Collaboration

Nkhatabay witnessed a dynamic exchange visit this week, where we delved into the world of Permaculture activities in three prominent schools: Mkondezi, Chiguluwe, and Luwazi primary schools. This initiative aimed to foster knowledge-sharing and networking among the organizations dedicated to implementing ecological land use management with smallholder farmers.

Schools and Colleges Permaculture (SCOPE) took center stage, providing invaluable insights into their permaculture initiatives within these schools. What warmed our hearts was the delightful collaboration between students and their educators, working hand in hand to cultivate sustainable practices.

During our visit, Chifundo Khokwa, the National Coordinator of Schools Permaculture (SCOPE) Malawi, emphasized the importance of nurturing these young minds. Khokwa highlighted SCOPE's commitment to conducting school-based needs assessments, ensuring tailored programs that meet each school's unique requirements.

PELUM Malawi, National Coordinator Nozgenji Bilima echoed her sentiment, emphasizing the significance of empowering schoolchildren to engage in permaculture and agro ecology activities. This early exposure ensures that knowledge about sustainable agriculture and climate change is imparted at a tender age, fostering responsible citizenship.

Ireen Chirwa, a standard 8 learner from Luwazi primary school, showered appreciation on the permaculture organizations for their impactful work. She recognized the vital role these initiatives play in combating climate change in the country, citing the invaluable insights gained about agriculture. Moreover, Ireen expressed her enthusiasm for sharing this newfound knowledge with her classmates.

As we reflect on this inspiring exchange visit, we invite you to explore the visual highlights of this enriching experience.

It's evident that in Nkhatabay, the seeds of knowledge and sustainability are being sown in the minds of the future generation, ensuring a brighter, greener tomorrow
